Help End Violence

We can all help to achieve equality for women and stop violence against women by examining our own values and behaviors.

  • Confront your friend’s partner about the violence. They may become violent towards you and/or make it more difficult for you to see your friend. They may also take out their anger at you on your friend.
  • Bad-mouth her partner. An abused woman wants the violence to stop, but she may want her relationship to last.

Here are some ways to help get started

As man I can:

  • Speak up.
  • I can act on what learn
  • Practice co-operation, instead of competition.
  • Challenge stereotypes.
  • Never blame a woman for the violence in her life.
  • Avoid movies and other media that glorify violence.Ask women about their experiences and the barriers they face.

As man I can:

  • Ask women about their experiences and the barriers they face.
  • Share responsibility for child care and home maintenance.
  • Challenge violent or sexist behavior whenever I see it.
  • Teach my children that violence is an abuse of power and trust, and that it does have consequences.
  • Avoid movies and other media that glorify violence.
